Professor Nigel Wright joined us in March 2022 and is now a non-executive member of the board of directors with responsibility for chairing the board and managing its business.
Nigel has a wealth of knowledge and experience from working as an academic researcher in the UK, US and the Netherlands whilst also having senior executive experience as a Deputy Vice-Chancellor. At Edenvale Young he is working with the directors as a critical friend and exploring new ownership structures for the company and its employees.
Nigel has extensive experience of conducting research and winning funding internationally. This encompasses highly-cited publications and impact on practice. He carries out his role at Edenvale Young Associates alongside his part-time role as Professor of Water and Environmental Engineering at the University of Birmingham.
From initial research on the use of computers to predict the movement of fluids in the natural and built environment, Nigel’s research has expanded into the cross-disciplinary aspects of flood risk management and climate change adaptation. This has led to funding from the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council, the Natural Environment Research Council and the Economic and Social Research Council amongst others.
Nigel’s work has had a strong international focus. He has worked on collaborative projects in Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, Argentina, China and India. He has been a Visiting Professor of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and Fellow of the HEA.
Nigel was previously been Head of the School of Civil Engineering at Leeds and was most recently Deputy Vice-Chancellor – Research and Enterprise at Nottingham Trent University.
