Clive Onions

Clive is a civil engineer with over 45 years’ experience, 35 years with the leading Consulting Engineers Arup, where he was Associate Director responsible for a team of over 40 staff engaged in civil engineering. Clive’s role involved technical reviews of many and varied projects.

  • Giving evidence at Local Plan Inquiry, Public Inquiry, Lands Tribunal, Drainage Tribunal, Mediation and at Hearings related to flood risk, drainage and infrastructure
  • Member of the Institution of Civil Engineer’s Expert Panel on Water for 10 years, 7 of which as vice chairman
  • Contributing to technical publications, conferences and reviews of policy documents related to sustainable drainage, flood risk on behalf of Institution of Civil Engineers.
  • In 2003 was Independent Chairman investigating the cause of flooding from the River Thames through Windsor, Eton and Maidenhead and downstream, reporting to Government
  • Inspects University Civil Engineering Departments for the Joint Board of Moderators to accredit their courses and is Chairman of the Industrial Advisory Board for Civil Engineering at University of West of England
  • Temporary Flood Risk Manager for Bristol City Council in 2011-12
  • Advises Universities, Commercial Developers, Internal Drainage Boards, individual Clients etc on flood risk and drainage related to large and small projects
  • Key projects include Bristol Harbourside, Hewlett Packard (Bristol), Bristol North Fringe, Oxford University projects
