Location: River Dun, Kimbridge, UK
Wessex Rivers Trust commissioned Edenvale Young to undertake hydraulic modelling of the River Dun at Kimbridge, Hampshire. The Trust proposed a number of interventions along the watercourse and hydraulic modelling was required to understand any potential impact of these interventions.
The interventions included:
– removal of informal weirs
– regrading of the channel bed
– installation of fishing access points
– installation of woody berms
A 1D-2D Flood Modeller – TUFLOW model was constructed using topographic survey specified by EVY for the purpose of the project. In parallel, a hydrological analysis was undertaken to derive inflows for the model. The modelling exercise demonstrated that the proposed interventions had little impact on modelled flood extents. Wessex Rivers Trust have since implemented the proposals – the photographs below show the weir before and after removal.
