Sara studied Environmental Engineering at Napoli (Italy) for 5 years, undertaking a variety of units, including water treatment, sewage and solid waste treatment, environmental hydraulics. She graduated in 2006 and worked as Environmental Consultant in Napoli before moving to Bristol to undertake a PhD in Civil Engineering, graduating in September 2011. Sara's main area of research has been the assessment of the uncertainty in data and models used in hydro-meteorological forecasting. She has focused in particular on the processing of weather radar rainfall estimates and on the implementation of short-term deterministic and probabilistic rainfall forecasts in flood forecasting. She has published several peer-reviewed papers and disseminated her research outputs at various international conferences.
Sara is a member of the Hydrological Ensemble Prediction Experiment "HEPEX" community and has convened the dedicated session on Ensemble Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting at the European Geosciences Union General Assembly in 2014 and 2015.
Sara worked as research assistant in Civil Engineering until 2012, when she joined the School of Gegraphical Sciences for a two years lectureship in Hydrology. During this time, she taught several courses, including hydrology, river hydraulics and hydro-meteorological forecsating. Sara joined Edenvale Young in October 2014.Since joining, she has worked on a variety of projects, carrying out hydrological analyses, hydraulic modelling, flood risk assessments. Her skills include:
- Hydrological analysis using standard FEH methods
- 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling using ISIS,TUFLOW and ESTRY
- Technical Report Writing
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Project Management
