Surface Water & SuDS

Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) have grown in popularity over recent years. All Local Planning Authorities in England and Wales require the use of SuDs to ensure that new development does not exacerbate flooding elsewhere. SuDS are designed to mimic natural drainage and thus control inundation of the site and flooding downstream. SuDs also play a key role in removing pollutants from surface water runoff and thus maintaining good water quality.

Edenvale Young are driven by the overarching principles of SuDS design that “surface water runoff should be managed for maximum benefit”. Not only will a well designed SuDS scheme help to control flooding (Water Quantity) on a site, it will also help to reduce pollution (Water Quality) and create better places for both people and wildlife (Amenity and Biodiversity).
